Q&A:

-What’s your long-term motivation or vision? What drives you?

My long-term vision is to address education issues, specifically around college access and equity. As a first-generation, low-income student, I’m aware of a lot of the issues that plague my community and want to use my education and the experiences I’ve gained to give back.

-Why do you enjoy working with students?

I love guiding students to an “Aha“ moment, where they are genuinely excited to have learned something. I enjoy seeing their growth over time and building meaningful relationships with them. They give me the energy to keep going and are the reason I enjoy my job!

-How does the word “community” play out in your life?

Community manifests as more than just a geographical location in my life. My community back home in LA is essential to me, but I also find community in the people I’ve met throughout my years and the experiences I’ve shared with others. I try to build community where I can.

-If you could travel anywhere in the world for a whole month, where would you go?

I would travel across Europe (I’ve never been) to watch all of my favorite soccer teams play. It would be exciting to explore the continent and travel stadium to stadium while also indulging in all things Harry Potter in England, specifically.

-A genie in a lamp offers you a choice between two superpowers: flight or invisibility. Which ability do you claim, and what would you use it for?

I would choose flight for the obvious choice of traveling and avoiding transportation costs (while also helping the environment, too). I’d use this opportunity to take more trips and explore a lot more cuisines.
